Recruitment

Welcome!
The Indialantic Fire Department is a
combination house, we have a paid Chief and 6 paid members with volunteer
members filling out the ranks. Many volunteers use us a stepping stone to enter
the fire service, and others are more permanent members who are with the
station for years. What ever your plans are if you are willing to work and help
out we will welcome you.
You must be 18 or over to join up, no maximum
age limit. You must be available on Wednesday nights that is our training night
from 7pm-9pm. Our training nights cover all aspects of the Fire and Medic
service. We require 24 hours of standby time and an overnight stay each month.
To join you show up on any Wednesday night 7-9 pm and ask for the membership
coordinator.
You will fill out an application and
paperwork, at this point you become an applicant, you will have to get a
background check and a physical before you are allowed to ride on the trucks,
however, you are still encouraged to show up at trainings and complete standby
time this shows us you are serious. Dress is dark pants, dark shirt, and black
footwear. At the next business meeting, which is held on the first Wednesday of
the month, you will introduce yourself to the membership,
You will then officially become an
Introductory Member, we will be observing you for the next month. This time
should be spent becoming familiar with the layout of
Engine-57 and as well as protocols and
procedures of the station. At the next business meeting you will be asked to
step out of the room and the membership will vote on allowing you to continue
on to the next level Probationary member.
Hours put in, good physical, good background,
attitude are all factors that are considered when we vote so be sure to make
good impressions. If you are voted in then the next month is crucial, you will
be issued a duty shirt and it is to be worn any time you are reporting to the
station. During probationary stage you are cleared to ride on the trucks during
calls at the discretion of the captains be sure you have permission before
boarding. Your time put in, attitude, work ethic, and knowledge of the
equipment all play factors in how long you will remain a probationary member.
Most members only need a month or two to graduate to the final stage, Active
member.
At the business meeting if you are voted in
as a active member you will be able to vote and you will receive all your
station gear, if you are certified you can also acquire your bunker gear as
available. And that is the process to become an active member in the
Indialantic Volunteer Fire Dept.
Times: we have 4 types of activities we keep
track of.
Admin time is time spent in meetings or
officers doing paperwork.
Training time: Wednesday nights from 7-9 pm
or any other specifically designated times
Standby time is the time spent at the station
that is not training, going over the trucks, cleaning up, and going on calls
are examples of what you would do during standby. When you come in for standby
report in to the duty captain and see if there is anything that needs to be
done.
PT time: we encourage all our members to be
fit and healthy and any exercise should be logged
