The Indialantic Fire Rescue Department has received a new
device that allows our crew to transmit an electrocardiogram instantly to the
hospital in the event a patient is having a heart attack. The tracing would be
first evaluated by the Emergency Room physician and then can be transmitted
directly to the cardiac cath lab so that treatment would be in place before the
patient even reached the hospital. This is a tremendous improvement in the care
and treatment previously offered to our community. The device was purchased
through an Emergency Medical Services grant that was applied for through
Brevard County Emergency Medical Services. There was no cost to our residents and this will be an asset that
would save many lives of our cardiac patients. This system will be in place and
operating as of March 1, 2010
